For reference on this topic, read How to Take Perfect Lecture Notes”

In class, we will listen to a lecture twice.

  • The first time, you will watch as notes appear in a Power Point presentation.
  • The second time, you will take your own notes using a guide.

On your own, go to CivilWarStudies.org and listen to part of the lecture “Last Months of the Civil War” by Professor John. Y. Simon.

http://civilwarstudies.org/OnlinePrograms/simon/start.htm

 Listen to:

  • Opening Remarks (00:05:45)
  • August 1864 (00:06:54)
  • Early 1865; Lee’s Assault on Ft. Stedman (00:03:32)
  • Black Troops for the South? (00:03:21)

Take notes on the lecture. (The total time is aout 20 minutes.)

  • Try not to pause the recording.
  • You may listen more than once, and you may recopy or type up your notes. If you do this, bring both copies of your lecture notes to class.
  • Remember, you don’t have to write every word, only the important ones. You may abbreviate words nd phrases.

Turn in your notes on Friday, April 6.
