Foundations: Lab 11 (Famous person biography)

This week’s lab involves group work. In groups of two or three students, you will prepare a presentation about a famous person. You should:

  • Follow the instructions on the handout
  • Do research about the person
  • Work together to write a biography of the person, using past tense and present perfect tense
  • Give a presentation in which every group member does a part
  • Use “acting” or pictures in your presentation

If you want some extra practice for the chapters in our book, go to the Cambridge “Interchange Arcade” website.

If the picture doesn’t show you Student Book 1 (red book), click on Book 1 on the left.

Click “Units 9-16″ then choose the chapter you want to practice.

In the menu on the left, click on the different activites and practice them. Some have sound. Some require you to move words and sentences around on the screen.

Pre-University: Lab 10 (Experts presentation)

You have been researching and writing a paper on a subject you didn’t know very much about. Now I want you to give a presentation on a subject you are an expert on!  Your presentation should be

  • on a subject you are interested in and know about
  • 5 minutes or less
  • informative
  • targeted to your audience – you should teach the class something in a way we can understand

Also:

  • You shouldn’t need to do much research for this presentation.
  • You should include some visual and/or audio aids. This could mean an outline, pictures, objects, music, or videos.
  • A simple powerpoint presentation is a good way to organize your presentation.

Try not to spend much more than one hour  preparing your preparation. Remember, this is a topic you already know about. You just need to think about how to communicate some basic information about your topic to the class.
